This chapter presents a case scenario of a 75-year-old woman who is living independently who is seen with complaints of right shoulder pain and loss of motion. Shoulder arthritis can include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, and cuff tear arthropathy. In general, reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) is an implant that provides increased stability for a shoulder that has lost, or is at increased risk of losing, its normal ball-and-socket function. The traditional indication for rTSA has been rotator cuff tear arthropathy with pseudoparalysis in elderly low demand patients. rTSA has enjoyed tremendous success considering its relatively short proliferation. The results of rTSA are very good for pain relief and improved motion. The results depend on several factors, including the indication, age, gender, and preoperative level of function. The chapter provides recommendations for implementing evidence-based practice in the clinical setting.
