Abstract
This paper examines the financial and numismatic aspects of the endowment of Miletus, at the end of the third century b.c., to assure the provision of education for the city's free children. The ten talents (45,000 drachmas in local currency) donated by Eudemos and his brothers were supposed to yield 4,500 drachmas every year, but the public treasury advanced the sum in order to accelerate the process.
