Abstract
Il saggio su Arpino analizza i due “romanzi politici” dello scrittore piemontese mostrando l’ambivalenza con cui è dipinta l’ideologia della classe operaia. Si concentra, da un lato, sull’indecisione di Ugo Braida, il protagonista degli Anni (accentuata dalla focalizzazione interna concessa alla moglie Ester) e, dall’altro lato, sulla “penetrazione” dei miti del benessere nella Torino operaia degli anni Sessanta (cosa che comporta, nella Nuvola, la deflagrazione del “triangolo amoroso” fra i personaggi e la sconfitta di tutti gli eroi, che muoiono, come Matteo, o vengono integrati, come Angelo e Sperata). Il saggio riflette anche sulle forme (tra realismo e modernismo) con cui vengono narrate le vicende dei due romanzi.
