Abstract
Parce qu’elles révèlent les apories des mécanismes de transmission identitaires familiales, les conversions religieuses peuvent donner des indications, informer, voire nuancer les dynamiques générationnelles qui semblent à l’œuvre dans les mouvements actuels de radicalisation. Partant de l’expérience de jeunes Québécois qui ont choisi d’entrer dans l’Islam, nous discutons l’hypothèse de fracture générationnelle (Roy 2002) en examinant les négociations, compromis et ajustements qui composent leurs rapports familiaux, notamment autour de l’enjeu de la célébration de Noël. Nous montrons que la critique morale qui amène les convertis à se dissocier de l’héritage identitaire légué par leurs parents les rapproche en fait du modèle familial de leurs grands-parents. Cette volonté de perpétuer une tradition lignagère portée par des valeurs morales traduit un projet social et politique axé sur des idéaux de convivialité et de solidarité.
