Pendant plus de 25 ans, la romancière et journaliste belge France Adine travailla à éclairer des dizaines de milliers de femmes sur la meilleure manière de construire et de pérenniser leur couple et leur famille. Elle prodigua ses conseils dans ses chroniques hebdomadaires dans le magazine belgo-français Femmes d’aujourd’hui et dans ses romans sentimentaux historiques. L’analyse croisée de ses textes, de leur support et de leur réception permet de mettre au jour l’habileté de l’écrivaine-journaliste à s’approprier des genres différents. Dans ses articles et ses textes littéraires, elle élève l’amour et l’art au rang de valeurs capables de combler les fractures sociales, au niveau intime de la conjugalité, comme au niveau plus large d’une société. Ce socle idéologique est en quelque sorte décliné dans deux espaces-temps : l’ici et maintenant dans Femmes d’aujourd’hui, le passé sublimé dans les romans sentimentaux. Le magazine, qui fait la publicité des romans et façonne l’autorité morale de France Adine, sert de courroie de transition entre ces deux logiques.
