O imaginário urbano e a fotografia: a modernidade e a ruína do bairro da Ribeira

Abstract
Este artigo tem por objetivo reconhecer as rupturas existentes na continuidade histórica do bairro da Ribeira, a partir do estudo das fotografias que compõe o imaginário urbano da cidade de Natal, no início do século XX e no início do século XXI. Entende-se o imaginário com base na perspectiva da nova história cultural, representada pelo pensamento de Patlagean e Le Goff. Para auxiliar na análise do imaginário, encontrou- se apoio na semiologia e no materialismo histórico dialético. Para delimitar a pesquisa, foram escolhidas fotografias de quatro edifícios, nos dois períodos estudados. Conclui- se que, ao estudar as fotografias do bairro da Ribeira nos momentos distintos, é possível observar as dinâmicas processadas no espaço onde o foco que outrora foi à modernidade, hoje é a ruína.
