Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse au rôle que le sentiment d’envie joue dans deux romans de Nelly Arcan, Folle (2004) et À ciel ouvert (2007). En montrant que les personnages féminins évoluent dans un monde où la concurrence et la compétition constituent le mode principal d’interaction sociale, et où la valeur des sujets féminins résulte de leur corps sexualisé, notamment par le biais de l’auto-objectivation et de la chirurgie esthétique, l’article étudie les rouages de l’envie et du ressentiment qui conduisent à un dénouement tragique. Créant un univers qui peut être qualifié de dystopique, l’écriture d’Arcan invite à repenser la compétition et la rivalité chez ses personnages féminins comme un signe d’insécurité et d’incertitude ontologique.
