View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2022-0842.vid With the growing commercialization of the space industry, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is becoming more congested. Depending on the orbit, some satellites naturally decay while others can remain for decades or even centuries, past their operational lifetime. This paper introduces the concept for a Self-Contained Orbit Termination Tool (SCOTT). SCOTT is an active attitude control system with a 3-axis magnetometer, a 3-axis gyroscope and, a thruster. SCOTT will provide small satellite projects with an inexpensive, lightweight, self contained device that can be easily integrated, and activated, at the end of a mission to accelerate deorbit by means of a retrograde burn. As part of the preliminary design phase, this paper compares the efficiency of deorbiting between a single and double impulse coplanar maneuver. It also discusses the regulations and guidelines relevant to the design.
