Abstract
Cet article met en valeur certains aspects de la vie et de l’oeuvre de Gabrielle Roy, la célèbre romancière manitobaine, qui font d’elle une pionnière. Dans sa vie, Roy fait preuve d’une indépendance rare à son époque en refusant le rôle stéréotypé accordé aux femmes de sa génération. Elle part seule en Europe et voyage un peu partout au Canada comme journaliste et reporter. Quant à son oeuvre, elle est reconnue dès Bonheur d’occasion comme originale. De plus, dans bon nombre de ses romans, par les paysages et les personnages qu’elle décrit, Roy est parmi les premiers écrivains à faire connaître le Manitoba français et à inscrire les immigrants de diverses nationalités dans la littérature canadienne. En paroles et en gestes, Roy est digne de figurer parmi ces femmes du Manitoba français qui sont de véritables pionnières.
