Abstract
En 1693, Angelo Costantini, dit Mezzetin, envoie à Violante de Bavière, grande princesse de Toscane, sa traduction manuscrite du Misanthrope . C’est la deuxième traduction dans l’ordre chronologique d’une œuvre de Molière en italien et surtout la première et seule réalisée par un comédien. En analysant ce manuscrit méconnu et le processus de traduction, l’article illustre la première pénétration de l’œuvre de Molière en Italie qui échappe aux circuits littéraires et livresques. La traduction dévoile ses enjeux davantage théâtraux et comiques que philosophiques et poétiques et invite en aval à réinterroger l’élaboration même du Misanthrope .
