Abstract
“Queering High School,” was a queer ethnodrama on the lived experience of 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Alberta high schools that explored their experiences of homo/bi/transphobia. The research queried the lived experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ youth in high school and examined the efficacy of sharing and disseminating the research through a theatrical performance. This chapter queries issues of intersectionality, queer research facilitation, and how an ethnodramatic inqueery queers tensions within representation and ethics. The author demonstrates that heteronormativity and cisnormativity perpetuate systems of oppression, through school-based manifestations of homo/bi/transphobic bullying and harassment, which have detrimental effects for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. The chapter demonstrates that ethnodramatic inqueery can be utilized as an empowering pedagogy that acknowledges the agency of sexual and gender minority youth, and raises queer issues within the wider community that may not have been recognized through other forms of traditional research.
