A pesar de la gran cantidad de variedades del español (Lipski, 2012), en los manuales de español como lengua segunda y extranjera (en lo sucesivo, L2/LE) sigue prevaleciendo la variedad peninsular (Potvin, 2018). En vista de que actualmente uno de los objetivos de la enseñanza del español L2/LE es formar a un hablante intercultural, es decir a un hablante “capaz de identificar los aspectos relevantes de la nueva cultura a la que accede a través de la lengua y desarrollar la sensibilidad necesaria para establecer puentes entre la cultura de origen y la cultura nueva”, ofreciéndole muestras de lengua auténtica (Instituto Cervantes, 2007: 33), proponemos una manera de tratar la interculturalidad en los cursos de español L2/LE aplicada a la variedad mexicana, la cual permitirá a su vez resolver qué variedad enseñar en los cursos de español (Blake y Zyzik, 2016). Recurriremos a la propuesta de Potvin (2020) para justificar que nuestra atención se concentre en el caso de México, por ser la variedad preferente, según la terminología de Andión Herrero (2007), que se debería privilegiar en los cursos impartidos en Canadá (Potvin, 2020), país donde se enseña el español L2/LE. Diferentes razones nos llevan a esta elección: México comprende la mayor parte de hispanohablantes además de ser el país hispano más cercano a Canadá. En nuestra labor, tendremos que interrelacionar los inventarios culturales del Plan Curricular del Instituto Cervantes (2007) a las nociones de Cultura con C mayúscula y de Cultura “a secas”, de Miquel y Sans (2004), para desarrollar el contenido cultural propio de la variedad mexicana, que contribuye a llevar al aprendiente a ser un hablante intercultural. Así, nos centramos en el contenido cultural y lingüístico de los refranes mexicanos y las festividades del folclore mexicano según el nivel de los aprendientes.
