Abstract
Le présent article cherche à connaître le fait, le fait social, à l’origine de la connaissance sociologique. Quel est-il ? Quelle est sa “matérialité” ? Comment se conçoit-il pour être l’objet de l’étude propre à la sociologie ? Après avoir envisagé la thèse classique selon laquelle la “réalité” correspond à une “construction sociale”, toujours changeante, le texte aborde le sujet sur le plan proprement épistémologique en se penchant sur les opérations de la transmutation du fait en objet scientifique. Une illustration est enfin donnée pour montrer que cette transmutation est possible en sociologie sans que celle-ci amène à penser que le fait n’est que pure “construction sociale”, donc sans autre matérialité, et par conséquent sans qu’il se révèle relatif à tous égards.
