En 1995, Le Tunnel sous l'Atlantique se présente comme une expérience artistique d'un genre nouveau.Foncièrement performative, elle donne à voir, à penser et à agir.Le public participe à raison d'une moyenne de deux heures par jour jusqu'au cinquième jour, moment ultime de la rencontre forte en émotions.Largement relayé par les médias de l'époque, cette installation qui fête en 2015 ses vingt ans, est devenue une référence parmi les œuvres pionnières, innovantes et critiques, qui tracèrent les voies du virtuel dans le champ des pratiques contemporaines.Le texte qui suit précédait l'événement. 1 En septembre 1995, Le Tunnel sous l'Atlantique, installation interactive de télévirtualité, relie Montréal et Paris, physiquement distants de plusieurs milliers de kilomètres, et permet à des centaines de personnes de chaque côté de l'Atlantique d'entrer en contact.À chaque extrémité, un tube de deux mètres de diamètre, comme planté dans le sol, laisse deviner une traversée rectiligne de la planète, jaillissant d'un côté au milieu du Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal et, de l'autre, au sous-sol du Centre Pompidou.
