Abstract
La pandémie mondiale de Covid-19 a impacté plusieurs populations vulnérables, dont les personnes âgées. De fait, de nombreuses victimes de la Covid-19 ont été répertoriées, entre autres, dans des Ehpad ou des CHSLD (Québec). Certes, le virus tue davantage les personnes âgées, mais il a aussi mis en lumière les représentations contemporaines de la mort. Dans cet article, nous revisitons l’ouvrage La solitude des mourants de Norbert Elias afin d’explorer différentes transformations sociales qui s’opèrent en cette période de Covid-19. D’une manière précise, la longévité des personnes, les progrès des sciences médicales, la pacification des sociétés occidentales et enfin, l’importance grandissante du phénomène d’individualisation ont été fortement secoués par cette crise planétaire. Une réflexion s’impose sur les moyens sanitaires utilisés pour combattre le virus et d’une manière particulière sur les manières de vivre et de mourir au temps de la Covid-19.
