Abstract
Significance As European demand for LNG continues to rise amid concerns about the security of pipeline supplies from Russia because of the Ukraine crisis, Egypt can bank on another quarter of windfall earnings before it reins in export volumes as domestic demand for electricity climbs over the summer months. Impacts Gas-intensive industries are enjoying a competitive advantage as domestic gas prices have risen by a lesser margin than in Europe and Asia. The approval of a modernised production-sharing agreement with US Apache Corporation sends a positive message to other upstream investors. The petroleum export windfall offsets the pandemic-related losses to the tourism sector.
