Abstract
Le concept de culture stratégique est l’une des passerelles qui permettent de lier l’histoire et la science politique, en rappelant combien la mémoire d’évènements passés peut déterminer la perception du présent. Mais cette mémoire est sélective, sujette aux oublis comme aux surexpositions. Ce texte est une relecture de certains fondements historiques de la culture stratégique de la société québécoise contemporaine, fortement teintée de l’internationalisme de Pearson, qui est souvent confondu avec du « pacifisme. » Il vise à démontrer de cette culture stratégique est en partie tributaire d’un oubli, soit la période de guerre endémique sévissant en Amérique du Nord à l’époque de la Nouvelle-France, et d’une surexposition, soit la défaite des Plaines d’Abraham en 1759, dont le souvenir encore douloureux pourrait avoir imprimer, dans la mémoire collective des Québécois, l’idée selon laquelle la guerre est une aventure qui risque d’aboutir à une grande catastrophe.
