80 ans après le génocide des communautés romani par les Nazis, la stigmatisation de ces communautés reste prégnante, et les musées n’en sont pas exempts. L’exposition Barvalo prévue au Mucem en 2023 vise à proposer un nouveau dispositif muséal dont l’objectif est de lutter contre des préjugés encore vivaces. Une telle initiative pourrait permettre une valorisation d’œuvres culturelles romani dépouillées des clichés.
