Abstract
The energy consumption of battery electric vehicles increases when the thermal comfort of the passenger cabin is considered. In hot climates, the energy consumption of the air conditioning subsystem depends on the solar irradiance, the ambient temperature and the relative humidity. In this article, a model is developed to assess the impact of air conditioning on the total energy consumption for two trips in a summer day: in the morning and in the afternoon. For the considered case, the results show an increase of the total energy consumption of 2% in the morning and of 10% in the afternoon.
