Abstract
Abstract The development of horns as antennas, array elements and reflector feeds is outlined. Expressions for the vector radiation fields of open‐ended rectangular and circular waveguides and pyramidal, sectoral and conical horns are given. Some far field radiation patterns and formulas for near and far field axial gain are shown. Dual‐mode, conical and profile horns are illustrated and their advantages as feeds for reflector antennas described. The phase centers of certain horns are defined. The importance of horn impedance is indicated and a few typical VSWR values are given.
