Abstract
Les forestiers français sont de plus en plus conscients des effets du changement climatique qui va très certainement affecter les forêts dont ils s’occupent à l’avenir. Une option sylvicole pour adapter la forêt française à cette menace est de transformer par plantation la composition des peuplements forestiers. Les représentants au niveau national des propriétaires de bois sont particulièrement porteurs de cette idée. Pour autant, cette option adaptative ne rencontre pas de consensus, notamment parmi les propriétaires et gestionnaires privés du nord-est de la France. Basé sur une enquête ethnographique, cet article tente d’expliquer l’écart existant entre le point de vue de ces détenteurs locaux de forêts et leurs représentants nationaux. Le discours porté au niveau de l’État serait une construction virtuelle de la réalité, intentionnellement construite dans le cadre d’un rapport de force externe et interne, entre, d’une part, les représentants des propriétaires et d’autres acteurs au niveau national, et, d’autre part, entre forestiers privés, eux-mêmes porteurs de manières concurrentes d’envisager la gestion forestière.
