This special issue of Biopolymers highlights fold-switching proteins, which remodel their secondary and tertiary structures, and change their functions in response to cellular stimuli.The cover highlights six distinct fold switchers involved in mitosis (Mad2), proteolysis (Selecase), transcription (RfaH), oxidative stress response (CLIC1), circadian rhythm (KaiB) and the human immune system (β 2 -microglobulin).Topics addressed in the issue include experimental characterization of triggers and conditions that foster fold switching, as well as computational approaches that predict and characterize these shapeshifting proteins.
