Se realiza la crónica de los hechos fundamentales del conflicto ambiental de la mina de Aznalcóllar (Andalucía, España), desde los años previos a la rotura de su balsa de lodos en 1998 hasta la actualidad. En esa fase, la Administración, con el acuerdo de todos los partidos políticos, apuesta por la reapertura de la mina. Ello supondrá que a las externalidades ya consumadas y los riesgos fatalmente cumplidos se sumen otros nuevos. Sólo una voz discordante, muy minoritaria, de las organizaciones ambientalistas se desmarca del consenso prominero. ¿Cómo explicar la extendida aceptación de la apuesta minera en un proyecto cuyos datos brutos lo sitúan entre los más riesgosos de los muchos previstos actualmente en España?
