Abstract Electricity (MIC: 7.1 SIC: 4911 NAIC: 221122) Fortis is principally a diversified international electric utility holding company. Co. segments its utility operations by franchise area and, depending on regulatory requirements, by the nature of the assets. Co. also holds investments in commercial real estate and hotel properties which have been treated as a separate segment. Co. operates in the following four business segments: Regulated Utilities ‐ Canada; Regulated Utilities ‐ Caribbean; Non‐regulated ‐ Fortis Generation; and Non‐regulated ‐ Fortis Properties. As of Dec 31 2004, Co. served approximately 972,600 customers in Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Belize and Cayman Islands.
