À la croisée des sciences sociales de l’espace et de l’éducation, l’article explore la manière dont la spatialité des élèves, c’est-à-dire leurs pratiques et orientations spatiales, participe de la construction d’aspirations et de capacités. L’attention est tout particulièrement portée sur les endroits isolés et à faible densité, avec leurs spatialités spécifiques, comparées avec celles propres des lieux à haut degré d’urbanité. L’article est issu d’une enquête qualitative, combinant entretiens semi-directifs et observation, menée dans huit établissements scolaires de l’Académie de Reims, qui diffèrent entre eux par la situation géographique et le public visé. L’enquête a montré comment les pratiques spatiales propres aux différents degrés d’urbanité peuvent avoir une incidence sur la construction de la personnalité, qui comprend le développement de capacités à créer des aspirations à la mobilité sociale et spatiale.
