Abstract
Cette contribution se propose de revenir sur l’apport de la philosophie politique aux études européennes. L’Union européenne pose à la philosophie moderne de redoutables difficultés, qui tiennent d’abord à l’identification de sa forme politique. Mais à cette dimension explicative s’adjoint une dimension normative : il s’agit de dégager quelle serait pour l’Union la forme adéquate de souveraineté et de gouvernement qui pourrait lui convenir. Dans cette mesure, la philosophie politique peut espérer énoncer les principes qui doivent l’organiser de manière légitime – principes qui orientent l’amélioration de ses institutions en visant la démocratie, la liberté et la justice.
