Abstract
Apa yang harus kita lakukan terhadap petani yang menentang serangkaian tindakan yang “rasional secara ekonomi” dengan mengatakan, “itu tidak ekonomis”? Dan apa yang harus kita lakukan terhadap suatu negara yang menetapkan kebijakan pembangunannya dengan tetap mempertahankan "tradisi" secara selektif? Dua pertanyaan tersebut menekankan transformasi kapitalis pertanian rakyat yang sifatnya beragam atau tidak menentu di daerah-daerah pinggiran di dataran tinggi di Sulawesi Tengah. Kelompok-kelompok seperti masyarakat To Pamona secara politis dan ekonomis telah diintegrasikan ke dalam suatu negara yang telah mengubah ekonomi secara fun- damental dan sekaligus membangun kembali mata pencaharian mereka sebagai “petani kecil”. Dengan meneliti bagaimana ekonomi moral muncul dari proses pembangunan tersebut, saya membalikkan pandangan historis tentang model ekonomi moral dan konsep yang berkaitan dengan “tradisi yang tetap bertahan”.
