Abstract
En 2017, dans le cadre du 375 e anniversaire de Montréal, la Brigade Arts Affaires de Montréal (BAAM) a légué une œuvre d’art public à la ville. Ce legs constitue une porte d’entrée privilégiée pour examiner de nouvelles articulations économiques et politiques du milieu culturel montréalais, particulièrement avivées par le contexte de commémoration. À travers l’examen des discours qui sous-tendent le don de cette œuvre d’art, cet article souhaite interroger comment l’implication de ce groupe de mécènes réarticule les idéaux de la participation et de la responsabilité citoyennes, mais aussi ceux du développement de la ville par l’art. Cette analyse met également en évidence l’ouverture du milieu politique à la l’implication d’un public pour le moins élitiste, dont les voix et les pratiques viennent moduler, par le biais de l’art, l’espace montréalais.
