A pesquisa foi realizada no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes da Universidade Federal do Piauí, em Teresina, entre maio de 2018 e julho de 2019, em três ensaios, nos quais avaliaram-se sementes de Flor de Seda quanto à tolerância à secagem e longevidade, em delineamento em blocos ao acaso. O primeiro avaliou o efeito da lavagem na viabilidade de sementes recém colhidas. No segundo ensaio testaram-se a tolerância à secagem em sementes recém colhidas e outras originárias do mesmo lote, de frutos armazenados por um período de 12 meses à temperatura de 5oC. Os tratamentos consistiram de um arranjo fatorial 2 x 6, resultantes dos fatores natureza da semente (armazenadas a baixa temperatura; recém colhidas) e tempo de secagem (0, 12, 24, 36, 48 e 60 horas), tendo como parâmetros a emergência inicial e final (6 e 12 dias). Na longevidade, terceiro ensaio, os tratamentos constaram da amostragem de sementes obtidas sem lavagem, submetidas à secagem ao ar livre, e mantidas sem acondicionamento, analisadas a cada 30 dias, em nove ocasiões, sendo determinados emergência inicial e final. Conclui-se que, a lavagem das sementes melhora a emergência e, armazenadas a 5oC por doze meses, perdem a viabilidade. Mais de 12 horas de secagem reduz o teor de umidade em 50% nas sementes recém colhidas e 94% nas armazenadas. A secagem por 60 horas, reduz a emergência total em 36%, comprometendo o vigor das sementes. Estima-se a longevidade em 180 dias.
