Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This chapter considers how the experience of immurement, a sense of being trapped within the contemporary art and literary practice of the old Turkish quarter of Nicosia/Λευκωσία/Lefkoşa, the capital city of Cyprus. Time is palimpsested in physical and imaginary space, both in the architecture and the collective memory of the city within the walls. This neighbourhood represents a mise-en-abyme of immurement, within a medieval fortified city, at the edge of a boundary first established in 1958 and consolidated in 1963. An impermeable border after the war in 1974, when the island and the two sides of the city were completely separated, the border became crossable once more in 2003. The vibrant street art and the cultural and creative spaces and events that inhabit this quarter now give voice to those at the peripheries of power whose work questions and seeks to transcend and subvert physical and imaginary boundaries.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
