Cet essai examine l'impact des pirates sur la Caroline du Sud pendant le soi-disant ge d'or de la piraterie. Cependant, un examen des prix capturs par les pirates sur la cte de la Caroline dmontre que, en dpit de leur rputation colore, les pirates ont fait peu de dgats au commerce de Charles Town. Bien que les forces navales coloniales aient t gnralement faibles, la Caroline du Sud et la Virginie taient assez fortes pour dcourager certains des pirates les plus notoires de l'poque.
