Abstract
À partir d’une enquête ethnographique dans l’État du Chiapas auprès de sages-femmes traditionnelles ainsi que d’associations agissant sur la thématique environnementale et du droit des femmes, cet article analyse la présence de la métaphore vie/mort dans les récits autour des pesticides et de la dégradation de l’environnement. Ce lexique s’inscrit dans la philosophie indigène du « bien-vivre » et se retrouve particulièrement dans les discours des femmes qui ont à charge les soins indispensables à la reproduction de la vie (travail procréatif, soins aux membres de la famille et aux êtres vivants non humains, connaissance des plantes médicinales). Au Mexique, plus d’une centaine de pesticides potentiellement dangereux sont toujours autorisés. Cet article montre comment, dans le Chiapas, où l’expérience politique d’un « autre monde » des Zapatistes infuse les pratiques militantes, les réflexions sur leurs conséquences délétères sur l’environnement et la santé humaine sont aussi un chemin vers d’autres futurs.
