Abstract
L’Influence d’un livre (1837) de Philippe Aubert de Gaspé fils, sous-titré « roman historique », est présenté par son auteur comme le « premier roman de mœurs canadien ». Il s’agit d’un texte polymorphe, où se déploient les aventures d’un certain Charles Amand à la recherche de l’or et de la pierre philosophale, entre intrigue policière, répertoire de contes et une pléiade de citations et d’épigraphes. Dans ce roman passerelle entre plusieurs modèles et genres narratifs, on reconnaît l’héritage de Diderot par la présence d’un narrateur en posture d’écrivain, autor in fabula soucieux d’affirmer la liberté du récit face à un lecteur également in fabula .
