L’Influence d’un livre (1837) de Philippe Aubert de Gaspé fils, sous-titré « roman historique », est présenté par son auteur comme le « premier roman de mœurs canadien ». Il s’agit d’un texte polymorphe, où se déploient les aventures d’un certain Charles Amand à la recherche de l’or et de la pierre philosophale, entre intrigue policière, répertoire de contes et une pléiade de citations et d’épigraphes.
