À partir de sources d’archives inédites, le texte retrace l’articulation entre les logiques académique, diplomatique et francophone qui ont été à la base de la fondation et du fonctionnement de l’École doctorale régionale en sciences sociales de Bucarest. Ouverte en 1994, dans le contexte des ateliers de l’EHESS en Europe centrale, l’École doctorale s’en est différenciée grâce à l’implication de l’AUPELF/AUF qui a financé la formation de plus de 250 étudiants et a favorisé la mise en place d’un réseau d’universités francophones de plusieurs pays (Belgique, Canada, France, Suisse). Au début des années 2000, l’AUF a imposé le principe de la régionalisation qui a conduit à des recompositions dans le réseau, par l’ancrage de l’École doctorale au sein de l’Université de Bucarest.
