Distorted-wave description of electron momentum spectroscopy for molecules: A demonstration for molecular oxygen

Abstract
An accurate description of electron momentum spectroscopy (EMS) for molecular targets remains unresolved since its advent several decades ago. Here, we report a multicenter three-distorted-wave calculation of electron momentum profiles for molecules. The accuracy of the calculation method is demonstrated by an EMS study on oxygen molecules at various electron impact energies ranging from 608 to 1808 eV. The calculations are in excellent agreement with the experiment for all the observed valence orbitals, especially the ``turn-up'' at zero momentum for the $1{\ensuremath{\pi}}_{g}$ orbital as well as the intensities at large momentum up to 6.0 a.u. where the cross sections are extremely low.
