Abstract
The gunboat «La Tactique» entered to the French Navy on October 1, 1883 and, despite her mediocre seaworthiness (like her sisterships «Décidée», «Pique» and «Surprise»), she took part in an expedition to the Gulf of Mexico.After that, she served in West Africa, on the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon near Newfoundland (Canada) and, finally, as part of the French naval battalion in the South Atlantic (coast of Brazil and Rio de la Plata).At this last point, the ship was decommissioned at the end of 1885.After that, in February 1886, she was acquired by the government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, in whose fleet she was renamed «General Suárez» and continued to serve until her decommissioning in 1930.
