En 2013, le musée franco-américain de Blérancourt acquiert un costume amérindien exceptionnel. Il s’agit d’un ensemble complet des Plaines, comprenant coiffe, tunique avec motifs historiés, jambières et mocassins. Datant de la fin du xixe siècle, la veste de cet ensemble est par ailleurs un très beau témoignage d’une amitié franco-amérindienne entre un chef indien sioux oglala et le premier réalisateur de westerns français, Joë Hamman. Depuis sa réalisation à la fin du xixe siècle jusqu’à la mort en 1974 de Joë Hamman, son second propriétaire, ce costume a connu de multiples usages que son état traduit dans une large mesure. En vue de son exposition, le musée de Blérancourt a engagé sa restauration en attachant une grande importance à la préservation de son intégrité historique.
