Abstract
Marc Lavoie’s collection of essays on Post-Keynesian monetary analysis, edited by Louis Rochon, testifies both to the advances that heterodox theory has made over the last 30–35 years and the original contribution that the Canadian economist has made. The collection consists of 20 essays from 1984 to 2018, which are divided into 6 sections. Topics covered include Post-Keynesian advances and controversies in endogenous money theory (sometimes in the form of useful surveys), the evolution of monetary policy instruments up to the global financial crisis, the evaluation of Modern Money Theory (MMT), and the European crisis. The initial papers comprise a couple of Lavoie’s earliest writings in which one can nevertheless perceive the enduring freshness with which he picked up and developed the theory of endogenous money. Many of the essays in the collection can indeed be seen as a confirmation and development of the monetary analysis already outlined in 1984 in the first essay of the collection:
