Al mirar retrospectivamente, la creación del Instituto de Diseño Industrial en Rosario fue un hecho que contribuyó significativamente al desarrollo del diseño industrial argentino ya que permitió conocer la importancia y el valor que el diseño aporta a la calidad integral del producto. Su impacto trascendió la esfera local debido a una inédita propuesta de trabajar en estrecha relación con la industria. No menos importante fue la constitución del equipo de trabajo que, ya en 1962, se sustentaba en la multidisciplinariedad y el diseño colaborativo. Esta narración propone una descripción respecto a su historia y sus características, así como de las investigaciones desarrolladas desde el Laboratorio de Ergonomía Aplicada y el Laboratorio de Estética del Diseño. Mediante algunas conversaciones y otros textos que se van articulando, se reflexiona acerca de la innovadora manera de trabajar. Es significativo destacar que, más allá del cierre definitivo del Instituto, los estudiantes, profesores y profesionales que formaron parte del IDI han mantenido, cual legado, aquellas prácticas en sus actividades profesionales.
