Abstract
Starting from a qualitative sociological survey on the mobility of French people aged under 30 in Quebec, the purpose is to understand and explain the fact of embarking on migration. Via the concepts of the career and of bifurcation, the conditions for departure are to be found in the combination of the French and Quebec contexts and the resources possessed by the young French. Migrating begins in three phases: a context considered unsatisfactory, a first experience allowing new possibilities to be foreseen, and the building of a new future.
