Abstract
Inscrite à la fois dans le champ en pleine expansion des études visuelles et du récent dialogue entrepris en sociologie entre la recherche et l’expérimentation artistique, cette contribution interroge la valeur méthodologique et la portée heuristique de l’écriture visuelle en sociologie. C’est à la croisée des enseignements de l’iconologue Aby Warburg concernant sa conception du montage et des concepts, pratiques et techniques de l’image en études et en sociologie visuelles que sera envisagée la narration par l’image. Ni tout à fait illustration du discours, ni même outil de captation, encore moins technique projective, il s’agit dans ces approches alternatives d’agencer des récits visuels dans lesquels l’image est au cœur de la proposition. Émancipées des contraintes du discours, sur quoi jouent ces recherches au croisement de la création et de l’exercice sociologique ? Sur quels principes reposent-elles, et pour quels effets dans le champ du savoir ? Une description de quelques études significatives en sciences humaines et en arts va permettre de préciser leurs dispositifs respectifs et de donner des clefs d’analyse concernant ce mode de connaissance émergent.
