Abstract
[i] Preface It t has been an extraordinary year-year, that is, on the academic calendar- for Erasmus studies. As promised, we began with virtually simultaneous events last October, Mark van der Poel's Birthday lecture in Leiden and the Margaret Mann Phillips lecture by Timothy Wengert, presented at the Six- teenth Century Studies Conference in Toronto. Both of these drew large and lively audiences. The printed versions appear in this issue. At SCSC there was also a stimulating panel sponsored by our Society, with a group of young speakers from whom we hope to hear more in the future. In the
