Abstract
C’est, ultimement, le système d’interprétation préconisé dans une recherche qui détermine son orientation dominante, inductive ou déductive. Le choix d’une démarche plutôt qu’une autre témoigne de la disposition d’esprit du chercheur face au terrain d’investigation, et influe nécessairement sur l’architecture de la recherche, notamment sur le déploiement du dispositif de saisie des données et le choix du cadre d’analyse. En utilisant l’exemple d’une recherche portant sur le rapport à l’institution scolaire chez de jeunes autochtones, le présent texte explicite cet état de fait et renforce l’idée que les études s’intéressant au sens de l’expérience vécue par les acteurs sociaux (qui s’inscrivent en l’occurrence dans un paradigme interprétatif ou compréhensif) gagnent en cohérence logique et en richesse interprétative lorsqu’elles s’insèrent dans un mouvement inductif général de saisie, d’analyse et d’interprétation des données.
