Abstract

A general purpose gamma ray camera has been designed and tested by Monte Carlo simulation. The design uses long thin fingers of LSO to obtain good spatial resolution at gamma ray energies from 100 keV to 100 MeV. The simulation was validated by comparing it with measurements on individual LSO fingers measuring 4/spl times/4/spl times/10 mm and 4/spl times/4/spl times/75 mm. Depth-of-interaction encoding, required for light-loss compensation, is obtained by a simple modification of the reflective coating of the fingers.
