Abstract
Colonialism and globalization are related phenomena that result in, and reinforce, the dominance of colonizers' languages. Studying the ways in which they are related to language involves a study of language and inequality, marked by greater symbolic capital assigned to dominant languages. These processes may play out differently at local levels, leading to the marginalization or exclusion of some language forms, and varying forms of linguistic resistance and revitalization in response.
