Abstract
Sex is regarded by many people as one of the great sensual pleasures. There is a plethora of different sensory types: visual, aural, hands‐on, and more tactile, with varying oral and olfactory sensibilities. Such variations influence whether sex will be a playground or a battleground. Winnie Dunn has developed a scale of sensory types to facilitate an assessment of sensory compatibility; and Helen Fisher has developed another scale of personality types, with implications for sexual types. The specific roles of sight, smell, and touch in sexualities are explored in this entry, together with some consideration of the roles of culture in sensuality and sexuality.
