Résumé Cet article décrit le développement du lexique, tel que mesuré au moyen de rapports parentaux, chez un groupe de 18 enfants avec trisomie 21 ou syndrome de Down (SD) qui apprennent deux langues dont l’anglais. Les résultats de l’analyse transversale montrent une performance inférieure et une variabilité plus importante dans la langue seconde (L2) que dans la langue dominante (anglais). La composition du vocabulaire en L2 est variable mais tend à s’uniformiser avec l’augmentation de la taille du vocabulaire, pour approcher celle d’enfants monolingues tout-venants au même stade de développement. Un suivi longitudinal de 15 des 18 participants révèle des progrès chez la plupart d’entre eux (n = 13) en anglais et chez un moins grand nombre (n = 9) dans la L2. Les performances dans la L2 sont liées à la fréquence d’exposition tandis que ce lien ne s’observe pas pour l’anglais. Ces données suggèrent que la présence et l’acquisition d’une L2 n’interfèrent pas avec l’acquisition de la langue dominante et que différents degrés de bilinguisme sont possibles chez les enfants avec SD.
