Abstract
John of Bridlington, also known as John Thwing or Thwenge, was an Augustinian canon who lived from 1319 or 1320 to 1379. He was the prior of the Augustinian house at Bridlington. He was canonized a saint in 1401, and his life is described in two hagiographical vitae , one by Hugh, and the other by John Capgrave. Tradition attributed to him a sequence of complex, satirical, political prophecies in poetic form, though some scholars have argued that the real author was John Ergom, who is most certainly the author of a prose commentary that circulated along with the Prophecies in four manuscripts.
