Abstract

Serverless Multimedia Discussion Assistant (SMDA) is a unique approach to developing an extensible system for group discussions currently under development by three UBC students. Rather than just giving real-time video and audio, SMDA includes white boarding, instant messaging and even remote control. This system is subject to different design constraints than a typical chatting system or video conferencing system. With SMDA it may be possible to help students to achieve a better performance and minimize the latency thus make our communications easier. In this paper the authors present SMDA approach, and how it can provide assistance to group discussions and improve communication performance. Issues to be resolved in the future and some of the solutions have already been developed are also discussed.
