Abstract
Social media is any interconnected internet application that enables users to create and share content without prior knowledge of software code. Mobile media expands the ubiquity of social media by enabling computing experiences that can happen anytime and anywhere. The uptake of social and mobile media by youth has prompted important changes in art and design education. This chapter outlines the relevant affordances and constraints of social and mobile media in art and design curricula by reviewing key concepts such as peer‐to‐peer sharing, individual and collaborative inquiry, geolocation and cartography, and ethical and legal computing practices. It provides insights into curricular applications and considerations.
